Three things Ghanaians search for: buying TikTok coins, exchanging coins for money, and finding out why a "free coins" site did not pay out. Two of those answers are: you cannot do that.
How TikTok Coins work in Ghana: the only safe ways to buy them with cedis, how coins become gifts then diamonds, and the exchange scams to avoid.
"TikTok coins" gets searched in Ghana for three different reasons: buying coins to send a gift, exchanging coins for money, and finding out why a "free coins" site did not pay out. All three answers are below, and two of them end with "you cannot do that".
Coins are TikTok's in-app currency for viewers. You buy coins, then spend them on virtual gifts during a LIVE stream or on a video. The creator receives Diamonds, and Diamonds are what eventually converts to money.
The flow is one-directional:
Cedis → Coins → Gift → Diamonds → Creator payout
Notice what is missing: there is no arrow back from Coins to cedis. Once you buy coins, that money has left your account.
If you have a Visa/Mastercard that works for international in-app purchases (many Ghanaian banks and fintech apps issue one), add it to Google Play or the App Store and recharge coins directly.
Apple gift cards work the same way as Google Play cards. Ghanaian App Store accounts need a payment method matching the account region, which is why most iPhone users here rely on gift cards.
What does not work: MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money cannot be used to buy coins directly. Coins are an in-app purchase controlled by Google or Apple, not by TikTok. Any "agent" who says they can load coins straight from MoMo is either buying you a gift card at a markup or taking your money.
Gift prices are set in coins and shown in the app when you tap the gift icon. They range from 1 coin for a Rose to 34,999 coins for the biggest "Universe"-style gifts. Mid-range gifts sit between a few hundred and a few thousand coins.
Gifts are public. That is the point: they buy attention and status in the chat. If you want a return on that spend, gift creators whose audience matches the people you want to reach — not random streams.
| Gift tier | Coin range | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | 1–10 coins | Supporting a creator you like |
| Mid | 100–1,000 coins | Getting noticed in a busy LIVE chat |
| High | 1,000–10,000 coins | Requesting attention, top-gifter leaderboards |
| Premium | 10,000–34,999 coins | Big creator support, brand-style gifting |
| Coins | Diamonds | Payout | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who holds it | Viewer | Creator | Creator |
| How you get it | Buy with a card or gift card | Receive gifts from viewers | Convert diamonds |
| Can it become cash? | No | Yes, if eligible | Yes, to a supported method |
| Refundable? | Generally no | Not applicable | Not applicable |
The gift card route is standard, but the reseller matters. Three rules:
If a reseller asks for your Google password to load the balance, that is account theft with extra steps.
Not directly. Coins are sold through Google Play or the App Store. The practical workaround is buying a Google Play or Apple gift card with MoMo from a trusted reseller, then redeeming it on your own account.
There is no fixed cedi price. It depends on your store's regional pricing and the exchange rate at the moment you buy. The confirmation screen shows the exact cedi amount — always check that before confirming.
No. Coins cannot be sold, transferred or converted to cash. Only creators can convert Diamonds, and only through TikTok's payout process.
Coins are spent on gifts or expire with your account balance in some cases. Check Balance → transaction history in the app. If coins vanished without a gift record, change your password and contact TikTok support.
TikTok takes a share before diamonds reach the creator, and the exact split is not published per country. Budget on the creator receiving roughly half the value, then check the LIVE dashboard for the real figure.
Buy coins only through Google Play or the App Store, never through a DM. Remember the one-way flow: coins are spending money, not savings.
👉 If you are on the creator side of that flow and want the audience that makes gifts worth sending, start with a TikTok booster in Ghana — MTN MoMo accepted, from GH₵5.
Because coin packages are priced in your store's currency, the cedi cost of a gift changes with the exchange rate and with Google's or Apple's local pricing. Check the cedi amount on the confirmation screen before you tap buy — that is the only price that matters.
No. Coins are a spending balance, not a wallet. There is no official exchange from Coins to cedis, dollars or MoMo, and TikTok does not offer refunds on purchased coins except where local law requires it.
Diamonds are the creator-side asset, and only Diamonds can become money — and only if the account is eligible and has a supported payout method. That process is covered in our TikTok growth guide and in the article on calculating TikTok earnings.
If a site or Telegram channel offers free coins for a username and password, it is not a promotion. The common patterns:
There has never been a legitimate third-party route to free coins. The only real free coins are promotional ones TikTok occasionally gives inside the app during events.
